Does flight really go against gravity?

The fabric of nature cannot be acted against, but some people think that the invention of aircraft for flying and the possibility of hovercraft-like machines defies the law of gravity? Is there something in gravity that means these things don't defy gravity, because how can you disobey the laws of nature?
