Analyzing the Poem "Running on Empty"?

It's the young refusing to accept advice from the experienced or the older generation. Yet in the end although disregarding the advice leads to some sticky times he gets through it but has to admit in the end that his life is 'running on empty still.' I suppose the moral is we all need some guidance and we also need our families around us otherwise life can be rather an empty vacuum without fulfilment
